What is Mapped
Abstract
Mapped is an outreach tool for students trying to break into investment banking. It finds the bankers you have the most in common with, drafts a cold email to each of them, and sends the ones you approve from your own inbox. The goal is a coffee chat.
Why we built it
Most students get into banking through people they know at the bank. If your school doesn’t send many alumni to Wall Street, you build that network yourself, one cold email at a time.
Two things make that slow: Finding bankers worth emailing means reading hundreds of profiles. Writing to each one well means finding something you actually share with them. Most students run out of time and either send a few careful emails or a lot of generic ones. Mapped does both jobs so you can send a lot of careful ones.
How it works
You start with your resume and a few questions about where you grew up, where you went to school, the jobs you’ve had and the sports you played. Mapped builds a profile from your answers.
Our ranking engine compares that profile against more than 20,000 bankers and puts the ones you share the most with at the top. Each match comes with the reason: the same high school, the same campus job, the same hometown.
You pick who to email. Mapped drafts each email from a template and writes the line about your connection for that banker. You read every draft, change what you want, and schedule the ones you approve. They send from your own email address.
Emails that read like you wrote them
Bankers have seen plenty of AI slop by now. It opens with “I hope this email finds you well,” praises the firm’s “impressive track record,” and takes three paragraphs to ask for a call. A banker can spot it in one line and usually stops there.
Our emails start from short templates that read like a student wrote them. Most of each email is fixed text you can read and edit before anything is sent. The AI writes one sentence, the connection, and that sentence has to point to something real in both profiles.
What you get
Ranking across 20,000+ profiles. Bankers at bulge brackets, elite boutiques and middle-market firms, ordered by how much you share with each one.
Email templates. Every draft starts from a template that has already worked. We wrote up how the default one is built. On Pro you can write your own, with up to three parts the AI fills in per banker.
Generous plan limits. Basic is free and includes 20 drafts a month. Pro includes 250 drafts a week and 1,000 a month, with access to every profile.
A high reply rate. In one batch, a non-target engineering student who was a grade too old to recruit emailed 71 bankers and 12 replied. Most of those replies came within a day, and all of them offered times to talk.
